Dear Editor,

2012!  This is a major year in the history of our nation.   “We the people, by the people and for the people” has become all at once the most quoted phrase and yet the most ignored.

I hear people talk of their concerns of our nation’s governments creating agencies and local councils that regulate without legislation our daily lives, yet, out of the next breath comes, “I don’t get involved in politics.”

I hear talk of our ever increasing debt as a nation that in just the last three years has more than doubled from 6 trillion to 14 trillion dollars, but then  I hear, “ I don’t have time for politics”.

Then my all- time favorite, “they are all just a bunch of crooks anyway, so I don’t get involved with politics.”

Now re-read the above and ask yourself, “is it any wonder we are in debt with unelected officials and un-vetted politicians calling the shots and there is so much corruption”?   Who is to blame really? Is it   we the people or the politicians?

If not you getting involved in politics assuming, you are moral and God-fearing, then who?  People who only care about making money off of your taxes?  People who care about only their code of ethics that is not Bible based?   Yes, our laws are based on the 10 commandments: thou shalt not steal and thou shalt not murder are hard to dispute.

There was acknowledgement of Divine Providence multiple times by our Founding Fathers.  Among many statements was the simple fact by John Adams that should be self –evident: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

Are we the people, moral and religious anymore?  Are our pastors preaching from the pulpit the concept that Benjamin Franklin stated when he said that “only a virtuous people are capable of freedom”?  Do they even preach about freedom and virtue or has it gotten so bad that the pastors, themselves, don’t think they have the freedom to talk about freedom and virtue?

2102!  Is this the year that we, the people are going to take our job serious as citizens and stop, look and listen to what is really happening in our country?   Will this be the year that we decide that our government should be of the people and by the people?  Will this be the year that we actually take note of who is running for office and that we research to the best of our ability to vote for the most constitutionally minded candidate?  Will this be the year that we pay attention to the laws they are passing or fail to pass?

Politics for me is not a hobby, not a passing fad, it is our way of life and the life of our posterity that is at stake.  There is NO other country like America!!  We are a nation of laws that came about by immeasurable sacrifice of those who traveled across the ocean to rid themselves of tyranny.  Yet, we are becoming more and more accepting of oligarchy because, “we don’t want to get involved in politics.”

We are content to just go and vote arbitrarily for candidates if we go to vote at all because “we don’t have time for politics.”

When this country fails and it will and is unless we wake up, then please remember that is was a country designed for we the people, of the people and for the people.  If you are not involved in supporting our constitution, constitutional candidates and holding our elected officials accountable then we will become as Franklin also stated,   “a nation corrupt and vicious, that has more need of masters.”
