November 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Mobile Mayor, Sandy Stimpson's Inaugaration

City Attorney Larry Wettermark said a 10:30 a.m. meeting has been scheduled Monday for the swearing in of the mayor and council. It will take place at Government Plaza.

"The two terms intersect at the oath of office and posting bond that morning," Wettermark said. "Sam Jones will continue to be mayor until Sandy Stimpson qualifies for taking office at the time he is sworn in Monday morning. There will be no lapse in the office of mayor."

The ceremonial swearing-in is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the Arthur R. Outlaw Convention Center. A reception with the new mayor and the City Council will be held from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.

Mobile Mayor Sam Jones said it's his expectations that he will continue to be mayor through Friday, though any emergency situation over the weekend will be his responsibility. Stimpson will then preside over the Mobile City Council's Nov. 5 meeting, making Tuesday's meeting the final one overseen by Jones' administration.

Meanwhile, Stimpson announced on his Facebook page that in lieu of an inauguration party, he will host a "Day of Service" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 2nd, at Parkway Senior Center on Dauphin Island Parkway. The center Is located at the corner of DIP and Boykin Boulevard, 3.6 miles south of Interstate 10.

Lunch and bottled waters will be provided, and attendees are asked to bring their work gloves and stay "as long as you can."

"The Center is in much need of work outside and could use our help," Stimpson announced online.

Stimpson is also encouraging the city's faith community to prayer for the city during their worship times this weekend, November 3rd and 4th.
