In an alarming July 18 statement, Rear Adm. Habibollah Sayari said the Iranian navy plans on deploying warships in the Atlantic Ocean as part of a program to ply international waters, although he did not say where in the Atlantic the ships would be sent. Two days later, Rear Adm. Seyed Mahmoud Mousavi revealed, for the first time, that the Iranian navy has equipped a number of its logistic vessels and units with long-range surface-to-surface missiles. He stated, "Missile frigates and destroyers have been equipped with these missiles since a long time ago and the surface-to-surface missiles of the logistic vessels were successfully tested and assessed during the recent naval war games, dubbed as Joushan." More ominous is the warning by the chief commander of the Guards, Mohammad Ali Jafari: "Currently, we are seeking to utilize our defensive capabilities in open seas. And it means that if the enemy plans to pose a threat to the Islamic Republic, Iran is capable of taking reciprocal action, and this strategy is currently on our agenda." ... "One nightmare scenario posed by the Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse was a ship-launched EMP attack against the United States by Iran, as this would eliminate the need for Iran to develop an ICBM to deliver a nuclear warhead against the U.S., and could be executed clandestinely, taking the U.S. by surprise. Since an EMP attack entails detonating a nuclear weapon at high-altitude, in space, it leaves no bomb debris for forensic analysis, no fingerprints identifying the attacker. We might never figure out who hit us, assuming the nation survives and recovers from an EMP attack," warns Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, president of EMPact America, who served on the congressional EMP commission. ... With the world's economy on the line and terrorism a major concern, global stability and security should be the top priority for world leaders. For that reason alone, the Iranian leaders who support worldwide terrorism, not to mention the many Iranian officials wanted by Interpol, should not be allowed to have nuclear weapons. In its lengthy piece, Mashregh discussed Iranian missile capability and the devastation it can wreak on potential enemies. Referring to U.S. military bases in the region, it said that in recent war games, ballistic missiles with cluster warheads destroyed targets similar to air bases and fighter craft hiding under hangers. The piece boasts that the two-stage solid-fuel Sejil missile can pierce through Israel’s missile defense system and has had “the Zionists losing sleep.” After a decade of negotiation with Iran, the West has yet to make any inroads in stopping the regime’s illicit nuclear program.... While a majority of Iranians oppose the mullahs’ brutal regime, Western sanctions have not curtailed its pursuit of nuclear weapons, which not only could lead to the collapse of the global economy but the killing of tens of millions of innocent civilians, including those in Iran.

Andropov knew that the U.S. would stand with Israel and that he could convince the European leftists and the Islamic world that America was dominated by Jews. “Andropov’s disinformation came to light in 1969, when Palestinian terrorists – secretly trained at the KGB’s Balashikha special-operations school east of Moscow – hijacked an El Al plane and landed it in Algeria. There its 32 Jewish passengers were held hostage for five weeks, during which time Andropov’s disinformation machinery portrayed Israel and the U.S. as the main dangers to world peace. “This pattern continued for years, as Andropov expanded his efforts from hijacking Israeli planes into organizing public executions of ‘Zionists.’ Andropov’s puppet, Dr. George Habash, Marxist leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, explained: ‘Killing one Jew far from the field of battle is more effective than killing a hundred Jews on the field of battle, because it attracts more attention.’”

By 1972, writes Pacepa, who lives in the U.S. under a CIA-protective identity due to still-active assassination threats against his life, the KGB’s disinformation machine “was working around the clock to persuade the Islamic world that the U.S. intended to transform the rest of the world into a Zionist fiefdom.” Andropov, he recalls, was utterly obsessed with convincing Muslims that the United States Congress was conspiring to have the Jews take over the world. “If we whipped up Muslim anti-Semitism,” Andropov would say, “then terrorism and violence against Israel and America would naturally follow.” Revealing that the KGB and related Soviet bloc intelligence services sent some 4,000 “agents of influence” into the Arab-Muslim Middle East to advance this agenda, Pacepa says he was, unfortunately, involved in spreading the most notorious and enduring piece of anti-Semitic propaganda throughout the Middle East: … The Romanian DIE (counterpart of KGB foreign intelligence), which I headed, in 1972 received from the KGB an Arabic translation of the old Russian forgery, “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.” We also received “documentary” material in Arabic produced by the Soviet disinformation “proving” America was a Zionist country whose aim was to transform the Islamic world into a Jewish fief. My DIE was ordered to disseminate these documents within its targeted Islamic countries. During my later years in Romania, the DIE disseminated thousands of copies of “The Protocols” and similar “documents” each month.

The ultimate result of this multi-faceted KGB-led disinformation campaign targeting the Arab-Muslim world, writes Pacepa in his FoxNews article, “was seen on Sept. 11, 2001. The weapon of choice for that horrific act was a hijacked airplane – a concept invented and perfected by Andropov’s disinformation machinery.” The book “Disinformation” – as well as the feature-length film documentary of the same name, released simultaneously by WND Films – go into much greater depth, exploring disinformation campaigns that turn most conventional geopolitical thinking on its head. For instance, with regard to terrorism, the book shows that Yasser Arafat, widely considered a bigger-than-life Palestinian leader, born in Jerusalem and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, was actually a creation of the KGB. Arafat was born in Egypt, not Jerusalem (the KGB destroyed his original birth documents and created new ones, reveals Pacepa) and was a committed Marxist who became the father of modern terrorism. Incredibly, Arafat’s successor, Mahmoud Abbas, was educated in Moscow at a KGB-run school. Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini was also trained by Moscow. And even the top man in Al-Qaida, Ayman al-Zawahiri, was trained by the KGB, as revealed by KGB defector Alexander Litvinenko, who was assassinated by Polonium poisoning. “Disinformation” is the first book ever written by a Soviet bloc spy chief whose introduction was written by a former U.S. spy chief – R. James Woolsey, former director of the CIA.

• China issues Israel-Palestinian “peace plan”

The plan was unveiled by Chinese President Xi Jinping Monday at his talks with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas Monday, ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s arrival in Beijing for an official visit. • Who stole our history – and why?

Diana West's new book reveals hidden stories of treason from WWII to the Cold War

A book called “American Betrayal: The Secret Assault on Our Nation’s Character” (St. Martin’s Press) shouldn’t promise uplift and spiritual renewal. I know. I wrote it.

That said, the story of “betrayal” my new book lays out – betrayal enabled by a de facto Communist occupation of Washington by American traitors loyal to Stalin, which would solidify in the 1930s under FDR and be covered up by successive U.S. administrations and elites – is not without inspiration. I am talking about the inspiration of the truth-tellers.

“American Betrayal” presents a rewrite of most of World War II and Cold War history, something I never imagined doing when I first began writing the book. This is simply the story that took shape from my research. And it takes shape in the book in a first-person narrative exactly as I stumbled across the revelations and put them together according to two basic mechanisms.

One relates to revelations from secret archives in Moscow and Washington that opened, briefly and partially, after the USSR dissolved in 1991. I discovered that the treason documented in these archives, treason committed by Americans in government, some in the very highest positions of power, had not been incorporated into our general historical understanding of such defining events as World War II and the Cold War. So I did my best to incorporate them. What emerges makes our history look completely different – even our near-sacred history of World War II.

The other stream of new information that I was able to reweave into the American story came from those I think of as the truth-tellers. These are the forgotten and/or maligned witnesses and investigators who told and sought the truth about the massive penetration and infiltration by Americans serving a hostile foreign power. (Yes, among them is Sen. Joe McCarthy.)

Their truth-seeking example is inspiring, particularly in an age of routine, serial lying and obfuscation in Washington. If there is one thing I hope my book does, it is to reintroduce us to these great Americans. Because they contradicted the official narrative – the “court histories” as author and historian M. Stanton Evans calls it – these Americans were smeared, marginalized and lost to us, their rudderless descendants.

We need them back in our historical and moral consciousness. To that end, I am embarking on an occasional series devoted to truth-tellers highlighted in “American Betrayal.”

I will begin with Maj. George Racey Jordan, who in 1949 and 1950 came forward to testify under oath before Congress that one big reason the Soviet Union had recently surprised the world by exploding an atomic bomb was that he, Jordan, the top “expediter” shipping thousands of tons of

U.S. war supplies and aircraft through an airfield in Great Falls, Mont., to the Soviet Union under Lend-Lease during World War II, had personally overseen the shipment of uranium to Moscow.

Really? Sure enough, as a congressional investigator would testify, two specific shipments of uranium oxide and nitrate were “completely documented to include even the number of the plane that the flew the uranium … out of Great Falls.” This postwar revelation before Congress would shock and anger Gen. Leslie Groves, head of the Manhattan Project, because he had slapped an embargo on the wartime export of uranium from the U.S. Of course, the shipments in question came from Canadian stocks. How did that happen? Therein lies a tale – a tale of betrayal.

Meanwhile, it wasn’t just uranium Jordan expedited, as he testified. Heavy water, too.

The congressional committee was able to document the shipment of heavy water, too.

In all, Jordan “expedited” 23 atomic materials through the big airbase in Montana to Moscow during the war, along with nearly 14 million pounds of aluminum tubes, also essential to atomic experimentation.

Findings in Soviet archives would later confirm that possession of the atomic bomb was what emboldened Stalin to trigger the Korean War in 1950. The implications of the theft of U.S. atomic secrets, then, becomes staggering.

After Jordan went public, all manner of witnesses stepped forward to corroborate different aspects of his story. There was the pilot who flew the uranium shipment (and said he handled brown grains of uranium that spilled from a box). There was the GI who recognized in Moscow-bound blueprints the chemical structure of uranium. Soviet defector Victor Kravchenko, celebrated author of “I Chose Freedom,” would himself testify before Congress and corroborate specific allegations by Jordan attesting to Lend-Lease as a giant conduit of Soviet espionage.

What even this skeletal synopsis of a tale that unfolds in detail in “American Betrayal” should make clear is that it wasn’t just the Rosenberg atomic spy ring that enabled the Soviet theft of U.S. atomic secrets. There was a massive looting effort under way inside the U.S. government overseen by senior Washington officials. Chief among these powers was Harry Hopkins, FDR’s very top, very enigmatic, very sinister (I have concluded) adviser. Hopkins was the power behind Lend-Lease – often the power behind Roosevelt, too – and a central figure in my book.

I knew none of this “lost” history going into my research more than four years ago. Precious few Americans, I’ve since learned, do. Hopkins, once famously known as Roosevelt’s “co-president,” is as absent from our national history lessons as Jordan, a credible eyewitness to what might well have been treason. Why do we have such blanks? Why isn’t Jordan’s earth-shaking testimony, most of it corroborated by documentation and supporting eyewitness accounts, ever taught? How did Hopkins, once the most powerful man in Washington next to FDR (and maybe more so) slip out of our collective memory? Who stole our history – and why?

These are the questions I set out to unravel in “American Betrayal.” On this quest, I learned there was nothing like seeking out, dusting off and listening to history’s truth-tellers.

Diana West celebrates woman who turned in Soviet agents embedded in government

One such witness – one such truth-teller – was Elizabeth Bentley.

I am looking at a 1948 newspaper photo of Bentley I recently bought on eBay. She is seated in an upholstered armchair, a small smile and lace collar her only adornments. She looks down at a white cat she is stroking in her lap. The cat looks straight at the camera, as though there were nothing else to disturb this peaceful scene but a flashbulb.

In fact, Bentley, then 40, had already entered the firestorm of public controversy that would affect the rest of her life.

Roughly three years earlier, in 1945, Bentley walked into an FBI office to inform the U.S. government that she had spent 10 years in the Communist Party underground, half of them as a courier for a secret Soviet espionage network that operated in Washington, D.C., and New York City. By the time my Bentley photo was snapped, she had begun testifying publicly about the U.S. government officials who were in and around the ring with her.

These included Lauchlin Currie, one of FDR’s top White House assistants, as well as White at Treasury. There were multiple OSS agents (the OSS was the precursor to the CIA) including Duncan Lee, top assistant to OSS chief William “Wild Bill” Donovan, and many other officials from elsewhere in the government. In all, Bentley would correctly identify 150 secret Soviet network members and collaborators – identifications subsequently documented by intelligence historians working with Soviet archives.

For all her trouble – for all her truth – Bentley would be publicly smeared as a crank and a fraud, or, as in her 1963 New York Times obituary, effectively dismissed because public officials she identified were not convicted of espionage. (Therein lies another tale of American betrayal.)

In “Spies,” a landmark 2009 intelligence history by John Earl Haynes, Harvey Klehr and Alexander Vassiliev, the authors completely vindicate Bentley. They call her defection to the FBI “the single most disastrous event in the history of Soviet intelligence in America,” and point out that “FBI investigations and voluminous congressional testimony supported Bentley’s story.” Soviet archives and deciphered KGB cables, they further note, “demonstrate unequivocally that Bentley told the truth.” And she stuck to it, even after the fur began to fly.

So why doesn’t this truth-telling American woman have a statue somewhere? Her alma mater, Vassar, would do for starters. Just as Yale pays monumental homage to its own renowned spy, Nathan Hale, Vassar should pay homage to Bentley. Why doesn’t it?

The answer, of course, is obvious: The American college campus remains an outpost of Marxism, the very ideology that animated so many of the Kremlin agents Bentley exposed. Indeed, this long-tenured Marxist influence over academia largely accounts for the anti-anti-Communist stranglehold on the historical narrative that skips or smears the truth-tellers, and thus the truth. Meanwhile, not only is Elizabeth Bentley reviled in academia, but some campuses even memorialize Soviet agents and collaborators, including Alger Hiss!

It’s time to give the truth-tellers their due and learn what really happened in the past, especially if we hope to prevent it from happening again.

• How to crack a government cover-up;

Diana West shares story of Jewish journalist who discovered truth about Soviet massacre

One such truth-teller was Julius Epstein.

Epstein was a Jewish refugee from Nazi-occupied Austria who came to the United States and became a noted journalist and author. I will have room here to discuss only one of his monumental gifts to history – the truth about the Katyn Forest Massacre. (His work is further discussed in “American Betrayal.”) By dint of his reporting, he was able to expose Soviet guilt in a wartime atrocity that both the U.S. and Britain had officially covered up for the better part of a decade.

The Katyn Forest Massacre was the 1940 Soviet slaughter of some 20,000 Polish officers, whose mass graves were discovered by Nazi forces occupying the region in 1943. Senior

U.S. and British officials, out of deference to their wartime alliance with Stalin, decided to ignore the early evidence of Soviet guilt and blame the Nazis. What I argue in my book is that one consequence of this wartime alliance was an increasing moral and even operational complicity in Soviet crimes against humanity – “the secret assault on our nation’s character” of the book’s subtitle. The U.S. and Britain, meanwhile, were allies with Poland, too, but its betrayal at the hands of allies had just begun.

In 1949, after Epstein published two compelling stories in the New York Herald Tribune about the evidence of Soviet guilt in the Polish killings, Congress seated a Select Committee to investigate. This is exactly what so many of us are asking of Congress today in order to investigate Benghazi.

The importance of this committee cannot be overestimated. Congress was able to establish the record of what happened, including the U.S. government cover-up of the truth about Katyn.

The investigation also revealed that pro-Soviet influence inside the government played a major role. For example, the committee report states that “there was a pool of pro-Soviet civilian employees and some military” in Army intelligence who apologized for “almost everything that the Soviet Union did.” Also, this same pool exerted “tremendous efforts to suppress anti-Soviet reports,” and ensured that officers “too critical of the Soviets were bypassed” for promotion.

This has striking parallels with today. Change “Soviet” to “Islam” or “Muslim Brotherhood front groups,” and the report could be describing goings-on inside the U.S. government ever since 9/11, and certainly today.

In 1950, the U.S. government changed its official story on the Katyn massacre, recognizing Soviet guilt in this mass atrocity.

28.     Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principal of “separation of church and state.” Get this, the same year this document was reviewed by congress was the same year the first ban on prayer in public school was enacted!

29.     Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis. Achieved by the Democratic Party.

30.     Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.” Achieved by the Democratic Party.

31.     Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over. Achieved.

32.     Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture– education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc. Achieved by 28% of GDP

33.     Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus. Achieved in the sake of ‘fare share’

Now take into consideration the Affordable Care Act “Obamacare” which over the next 10 years will socialize health care and eliminate your choice of health care, which will also be rationed. Barack Obama is funded by the mega-rich such as the CEO of Google (who oddly pays no taxes on 20 billions dollars in an offshore account), where these mega-rich are proponents of the two-party system, the serving class and the ruling class. There are countless pieces of evidence that this man is promoting communism in our country and it is up to you to investigate for yourself and find the truth, and when you find that truth it is your American duty to fight these traitors now.

It would help consolidate Moscow’s leadership position with those countries which would constitute such a post-Soviet union, since it would take advantage of a Soviet-era common transportation and energy infrastructure which would have the effect of magnifying economic and political dependence on Russia, according to Dumitru Minzarari of the think-tank Jamestown Foundation. “In the developing economies of the CIS countries,” Minzarari said, “natural gas plays the role of a public good with pronounced social welfare effects. When delivered at low prices – as Russia is willing to offer in exchange for often painful concessions from its importers – natural gas has the potential to significantly affect the political capital of the national leaders.” He pointed out that Russia also represents a huge market with lower standards for produced goods, making them more accessible in these post-Soviet countries. “With so much economic and political influence, Russia will then be able to promote its preferred candidates in national elections along its periphery – and will basically own the national governments,” Minzarari said. “Such an outcome would also trigger a diffusion into neighboring countries of Russia’s political system, which is a form of ‘smart authoritarianism’ mimicking democratic institutions and processes.”
