                                               Judge Reese McKinney

 

Reese McKinney,  Jr. born January 17, 1948.  He attended public school in Montgomery, Alabama, graduating from Sidney Lanier High School.  After attending Marion Military Institute, he received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Huntingdon College and a B.F.A. degree in Environmental Design from the New School University. Reese is married to the former Beverly Gordy.  They have three daughters Beth, Cathryn and Rebecca and ten grandchildren. Reese is a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, a former Sunday School teacher and is past-chairman of the Board of Deacons.  He served his country in the Alabama National Guard from 1968 to 1974.

GOVERNMENT SERVICE

  • Appointed Montgomery County Probate Judge 1998, then elected for two six-year terms serving through January 2013. 
  • Administrative Assistant to Montgomery Mayor Emory Folmar 1978 - 1998.
  • Completed Alabama Law Institute’s Law for Probate Judges course; Past-president of the Alabama Probate Judges Association; Served on the Alabama Judicial System Study Commission.  
  • Established the Montgomery Election Center that was recognized nationally for innovations in the election process and received the national award of “Best Practices in Election Administration”

  CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS

  • Currently he is on the YMCA Metro Board serving on the Finance Committee and is past-chairman YMCA Program Branch. Reese was also nominated YMCA Man of the Year for 1993-94.
  • Trustee and past-president of the Jimmy Hitchcock Memorial Award Committee.
  • Serves on the Advisory Board of Auburn Montgomery while being a member of the Alfa Farmers Association, the Air Force Association, the National Rifle Association, American Legion, Cattlemen’s Association and the Wright Flyers.  Another area of service includes the Advisory Board of Mary Ellen’s Hearth at the Nellie Burge Community Center.
  • He has been chairman of the Central Alabama Aging Consortium, a member of the Central Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission, the Alabama Film Advisory Commission, president of the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery, a member of the Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery Foundation, president of the Alabama National Fair, chairman of the State of Alabama Agricultural Center Board, secretary-treasurer of the Jackson Hospital Board of Trustees, a member of the Board of Directors for the Montgomery Area United Way, a member of the Advisory Boards of the Salvation Army and the Junior League Community Board, Vice-Chairman of the Alabama Certificate of Need Review Board and a member of the Montgomery Area Committee of 100.

  • Recipient of the “Heroes in the Flight” award from Mental Health of America

 COMMENTS

Judge McKinney won overwhelming victories twice in his race for Probate Judge by running a positive campaign and uniting all segments of the community.  This type of leadership is needed to solve the problems facing our city, county and state.
