Alabama Tea Party Conservative Coalition (ATPCC) Releases 2016 Legislative Priorities
Clanton, Alabama: Independent Tea Parties and Conservative Activists across Alabama met at Clanton on Saturday,24 October, to work in concert to get their top five legislative priorities passed. All five meet three guidelines: They impact states rights, the state budget, and state education.
ATPCC Planning Committee Chair, Dr. Lou Campomenosi and noted Alabama education expert, and anti-Common Core advocate, Col Mike Parsons, stated that the unanimous vote of the attendees to repeal Common Core reflects not only the will of the people of Alabama, but also the opinion of the GOP Executive Committee, almost all of the County Executive Committees and the Alabama Federation of Women that have overwhelmingly voted to repeal Common Core year after year only to see the moneyed interests of criminally indicted House Speaker, Mike Hubbard, Senate Pro Tempore Leader, Del Marsh, former Governor Bob Riley, and BCA President, Billy Canary, stop all attempts to repeal Common Core. The ATPCC’s action as noted here is a direct challenge to those Legislators who are sick and tired of lobbyists controlling state government to finally do the right thing and repeal Common Core.
The ATPCC’s five priorities are:1)Repealing Common Core;2)Passage of an Initiative/Referendum/Recall bill to allow citizens to redress the imbalance of power that exists between ordinary citizens and the moneyed interests;3) Passing a Comprehensive Budget Reform Act that will eliminate the roller coaster effect of the failure of the Hubbard/Marsh team to deal with needed budgetary reforms;4)Repealing the 2012 School Board Governance Act that is un-American in its intent to silence dissent;5)We continue to advocate Requiring a Civics Exam be administered to all High School seniors.
John Rice, president of the Alabama Foundation for Limited Government and a leading conservative voice in Alabama, said, “ Alabama’s Tea Parties, Conservative groups, including Homeschoolers, and Christian Schoolers, have once again sent a clear message to Governor Bentley, Mike Hubbard, and Del Marsh that we are adamantly opposed to Common Core and will do everything in our power to repeal Common Core during the next Legislative Session.” Rice went on to say that, “Robert Bentley, Mike Hubbard, and Del Marsh have stood in the doorway blocking the legitimate demands of Alabamians to repeal Common Core because they are more concerned with placating the lobbyists who fund their campaigns then listening to the people of Alabama who see Common Core as an inferior and failing education experiment that really is a liberal Trojan Horse undermining the Christian and American values Alabamians hold dear.”
